Help Us Make This Happen!!
If we were given a nickel every time someone asked us "Can you build more trails?", we wouldn't need to raise $125,000 for a bridge over Oak Mountain's dam. The Red Trail gets thousands of visitors each year. It's a great system but wouldn't it be better with more mileage through the woods?
We want to raise $75,000 by January 2010. This is where you can help. Each donation is tax deductible.
This is our current proposal, presented to the Alabama DCNR (1/22/2008), for expansion and improvements to the Oak Mountain Trail System. Great care has been taken to ensure other trail users are not infringed upon but also included as a beneficiary of the work done. We hope you can see how a world class, IMBA Epic can benefit riders and the local community.
On April 12, 2008, the DCNR approved portions of our proposal. Our proposed lake trail and Red Road reroute have been given the green light to move forward. Items not approved have been left open for future consideration.
None of these improvements can go forward until BUMP raises the necessary funds for the project. The bridge over the dam requires a professional, licensed contractor to lay the foundation and build the safety fence. DON'T JUST SIT THERE! If you ride, run, hike, walk, stroll, or roll, you know the value of good, high quality trail. In the coming weeks, BUMP, with the help of the Birmingham active community, will be hosting events with the sole purpose of raising funds. We can't do it alone.
